People ask me often what I actually do to help people manage their healthcare challenges and my answer depends upon what challenge they are facing. So I often ask them to give me an example. People have a wide variety of different needs when they are dealing with modern medicine. Most often, they are well cared for by a physician who has known them for years and they have no complaints about the care they are receiving when they enter a hospital. The people that seek me out have a different experience: they may be frustrated, frightened, angry or confused. They may be overwhelmed with dealing with the multiple hoops that their insurance company is having them jump through to receive needed care. Another may need to quickly access quality care for her aging mother on Medicaid and unsure of how to find the best quality facility to care for her special needs. Another client may seek my services from out of state because she cannot be with her loved one who is navigating multiple specialists and complex treatments after a stroke. The general public is usually unable to access quality care for their loved ones as quickly and efficiently as a professional RN Patient Advocate can. There are dozens of ways that we help clients receive the best, safest, fastest care possible.

One of the most valuable tools that we offer is the development of a concise, accurate medical profile. We take years of past medical records and weed through them carefully with a fine toothed comb, pulling out the most pertinent information and coordinating information from multiple practitioners. We list the information on a concise form that helps expedite care, leading to faster treatment and a more accurate diagnosis. Doctors and nurses will appreciate this tool greatly as well, as it will save them time and be much more accurate that any ill patient’s memory can possibly be. This medical profile will prove to be an invaluable tool to you or your loved ones when entering any health care system, either planned or unplanned. So do yourself a favor: protect yourself….you and your family are worth it!

With over 36 years of clinical experience in Critical Care nursing, home based health care and expertise as a cardiovascular nurse clinician, Teri is well acquainted with the complexities of the modern healthcare system. She has served as a nursing leader, mentor, educator, and consistent patient advocate throughout her career in some of the best hospitals across the country. Her passion to keep the patient at the center of the model of nursing care led her to incorporate NShore Patient Advocates, LLC in 2011, serving clients throughout the northern suburbs of Chicago.
