In today’s modern healthcare setting the health consumer is all too often otherwise left to fend for themselves. Therefore, it is imperative that we remain conscientious of changes in processes, billing & insurance matters, as well as keeping up with the latest health and wellness developments.

So, what is the health consumer to do? Where can you look for information?

Resources

A great place to start is the National Institutes of Health or NIH website, which is a comprehensive source of references for the latest health and wellness information.  https://www.nih.gov/health-information/physical-wellness-toolkit

This website puts at your fingertips a vast pool of knowledge necessary to empower you to not only regain your health but to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In order to continue on a healthful journey, it is important to be engaged and proactive in self-education.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by navigating the current healthcare system or should need assistance, NShore Patient Advocates is available 24/7 to help you through this process. We are a private, professional RN only Patient Advocacy company located in the Chicagoland area. Among the things we do at NShore is Coordination of Care; from medication management to insurance matters, we strive to keep our clients at the center of the care model.  Please see the link below:

Trends

There is also a great article on healthcare changes on the Optum website entitled Five trends in the evolution of health care https://www.optum.com/health-insights/health-care-trends.html?s=OB1E&o=optum:SM:CO_7.2_2019:tw:CO:lrn:19i4mhs05kz17

It highlights the trends in the areas of Value-Based Care; Data-Driven Personalization; Social Determinants of Health; Patient Engagement; and Coordinated Care.

Above all remember that while today’s healthcare system presents many challenges, you, yourself, have control over your healthcare. Staying informed and up to date is the best thing you can do.

On another note, we at NShore Patient Advocates would like to share some of our latest news with you… The Patient Advocacy Symposium is back, but bigger, better, and brighter than ever before! It has evolved into the International Conference on Patient Advocacy (ICOPA), and will be held right here in Northfield, IL on October 3rd-5th, 2019! We hope you will join us!
